Original Provenance: Chautauqua County, New York
Fragrant white flowers with purple veins and light yellow throat spread readily through stolons and seed. Low-growing colonies with deep green heart-shaped leaves form readily in shady, moist soils. Host to several fritillary butterfly larvae and visited by many native bees in early spring. Seed heads are spotted dark purple and blend in with the forest floor. Leaves and flowers are edible, like most native violet species.
